Giants Call Up Catcher; DFA Pitcher for the 3rd Time This Season
The San Francisco Giants needed another catcher on the roster after losing Joey Bart to a concussion.
As a result, the Giants have selected the contract of catcher Andrew Knapp from Triple-A Sacramento.Knapp will give the Giants some extra catching depth while Joey Bart is on the 7-day concussion injured list.
In 13 games in the majors this season, split between the Pittsburgh Pirates and Seattle Mariners, Knapp has hit just .114/.205/.143, with two RBIs and two runs scored.
The Giants have also designated pitcher Andrew Vasquez for assignment.

• C Andrew Knapp selected to the Major League roster from Triple-A Sacramento.
• IF/C Yermín Mercedes optioned to Triple-A Sacramento.
• LHP Andrew Vasquez designated for assignment.
Vasquez has been DFA'd for the third time this season.
He was just claimed off waivers from the Philadelphia Phillies a couple of weeks ago, and they had claimed him off waivers from the Toronto Blue Jays a couple weeks prior to that as well. Despite this, he's only appeared in nine games in the majors this season, all with the Blue Jays, posting an ugly 8.10 ERA and six strikeouts over six innings.
It will be interesting to see what team picks him up next.
