Chicago Cubs Letting Veteran Shortstop Go
Andrelton Simmons' time with the Chicago Cubs is likely coming to a close, as he has been designated for assignment.
Simmons being a veteran, he has the opportunity to become a free agent if he clears waivers. Yet, given his excellent fielding ability and long MLB resume, we shouldn't rule out the possibility of him being claimed by another club from here.
Simmons' campaign in the Windy City was underwhelming. In 34 games, he had a rough .173 batting average and recorded just seven RBIs. However, teams looking for a bit of infield depth could elect to give the four-time Gold Glove Award winner a shot.
