Cardinals Have DFA'd, Released and Re-Signed This Pitcher This Month
What a confusing month it's been for TJ McFarland.
At the beginning of August, the Cardinals designated McFarland for assignment. After he passed through waivers unclaimed, the Cardinals, on August 13th, released McFarland, freeing him to sign anywhere he wanted to.
Now, just 10 days later, the Cardinals have re-signed TJ McFarland, this time to a minor league deal.

He will report to Triple-A Memphis.
The thirty-four-year-old was pretty brutal in the majors this season, posting a 6.61 ERA, 1.62 WHIP, and just 16 strikeouts over 32 innings pitched.
Last season, McFarland was fantastic, however, throwing a sparkling 2.56 ERA, 1.06 WHIP, and a 21:9 K/BB ratio across 38 innings.
Maybe, the Cardinals can rediscover the 2021 McFarland.
