Boston Red Sox Pitcher Designated For Assignment
The Boston Red Sox are continuing to shake things up, as they also have designated Hirokazu Sawamura for assignment. This comes after the news that Austin Davis has been DFAed as well.
Sawamura has had a decent year, for the most part, so one could say that this is a bit of a surprising move by the Red Sox. In 49 games, he has a 1-1 record to go along with a 3.73 ERA. Yet, they are desperate to get back into the playoff hunt, and their bullpen has been a weak point. Thus, a shake-up also makes sense.
It will be intriguing to see if another team claims Sawamura off waivers from here.
