The Blue Jays acquired Zimmer from the Cleveland Guardians at the start of the season for relief pitcher Anthony Castro. Zimmer was brought in as a source of speed and defense, and he has lived up to expectations in that area. However, the twenty-nine-year-old hit a disastrous .105/.209/.237, with two home runs, three RBIs and two stolen bases across 77 games this season.
Zimmer's days as a Blue Jay were clearly numbered and, with the news of the Jackie Bradley Jr. signing, it became clear that Zimmer would not be on their roster for much longer.
There's still a chance that Zimmer passes through waivers unclaimed and remains with the Blue Jays as organizational outfield depth.
