Astros' Starter to Make Highly Anticipated Debut This Weekend

He's finally healthy, not having pitched since the 2021 postseason.

Houston Astros starter Lance McCullers Jr. will make his highly anticipated 2022 season debut on Saturday against the Oakland Athletics.

The talented twenty-eight-year-old starter has been out since the 2021 postseason due to a flexor tendon injury in his throwing arm.

His last rehab start did not go great, as McCullers allowed five runs, two home runs, seven hits, three walks and five strikeouts. He also experienced diminished velocity in that game.

Last season, McCullers posted a strong 3.16 ERA, 1.22 WHIP, and 185 strikeouts across 162 innings. He finished with a 13-5 record.

Houston will reportedly deploy a six-man rotation upon his return, featuring Justin Verlander, Luis Garcia, Framber Valdez, Jose Urquidy, Cristan Javier and Lance McCullers Jr.
