Twins Catcher Out 6-8 Weeks

The Minnesota Twins have caught a bad break behind the plate, as they will be without catcher Ryan Jeffers for 6-to-8 weeks, with a thumb injury that's worse than originally thought.

Per Twins beat writer Do-Hyoung Park, despite an original diagnosis of a thumb contusion, bone scans revealed that Jeffers suffered a slight fracture of his right thumb that will require surgery.

Jeffers has caught the majority of Twins games this season, and his superior play-calling is thought to be a main contributor to the starting staff's vast improvement over last season, as they have the 7th best ERA in the league to this point.

Gary Sanchez will likely take over the bulk of the work behind the plate in Jeffers' extended absence.

Jeffers was hitting .214 with a .666 OPS, 7 HRs and 25 RBIs.
