Tigers’ Eduardo Rodriguez M.I.A.— Contract Could Be Voided

The Detroit Tigers signed Eduardo Rodriguez to a 5-year, $77M free agent deal in the offseason. On June 13th, while on the injured list, he was placed on the restricted list for "personal reasons." The Tigers haven't heard from him since.

"We’ve reached out, but obviously he hasn’t reached out back, so we’re just kind of waiting it out. It is unusual," said Tigers GM Al Avila.

“From what I know, there’s been no movement whatsoever and no communication,” added Tigers manager A.J. Hinch.

When asked if he was in jeopardy of having his contract voided, Avila evaded the question.

"I’m not going to get into that at this point, because obviously that’s a private situation on his part. I won’t get into those legalities."

Rodriguez's last start was on May 18th, which lasted only a third of an inning. He left with a ribcage strain after giving up four hits, two walks and three earned runs. Overall, his ERA is 4.38 with a WHIP of 1.33.
