Rays Get Starter Back Friday

Starter Luis Patino will rejoin the Rays rotation Friday against the Orioles.

Patino had finally recovered from a severe left oblique strain before suffering a blister on his pitching hand recently, setting him back a bit. He's ready to go now however, and will start Friday in Tampa against the Orioles.

The twenty-two year old last pitched on July 02, throwing three scoreless innings with one strikeout for Triple-A Durham. In three games started in June, for Triple-A Durham, Patino pitched 11.2 innings, posting a 4.63 ERA, 1.20 WHIP and 12 strikeouts. He only threw 49 pitches in his last outing, so he would figure to be pretty limited pitch count wise on Friday.

Once a former top pitching prospect, Patino has the stuff to be a very good pitcher in the major leagues, the only question is if he can stay healthy.
