Pirates Place Pitcher on IL With More Knee Troubles

After having surgery on his left knee last season, it's disheartening to see Pittsburgh Pirates right-hander Chase De Jong head back to the 15-day injured list with more issues in the same knee.

It's being labeled as knee tendinitis this time around, "leftover soreness" from last season's knee surgery, as per Mike Persak of the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette.

De Jong was having a nice season out of the Bucos' bullpen, registering a 2.06 ERA in 35 innings. Coupled with a 1.05 WHIP, he was one of the Pirates' more reliable relievers.

The 28-year-old signed a minor-league deal with Pittsburgh this year after a rough season in 2021 as a starter, when he posted a 5.77 ERA in nine major league starts. His conversion to a reliever this season has been a successful one on the mound.
