Phillies Starter "Feeling Soreness" After Sim Game; No Timetable for Return

Zach Eflin felt some soreness in his injured right knee after facing hitters in a simulated game on Saturday.

Eflin will be evaluated on Monday. There is no timetable for his return yet.

Originally, the plan was for Eflin to return following the All-Star break. That's on hold for now.

The twenty-eight year old has been dealing with a right knee bruise since early June and the latest news does not help his recovery timeline at all.

In 68 innings pitched this season, Eflin has thrown a 4.37 ERA, 1.19 WHIP, and 56 strikeouts.

Eflin and the Phillies avoided arbitration this past offseason, agreeing to a one-year deal with a mutual option worth $15 million for 2023. Both the Phillies and Eflin would have to agree to the option in November for it to kick in. If the option does not kick in, Eflin would then become a free agent.

The Phillies are currently 49-43, sitting in the third NL Wild Card spot.
