''Optimism'', with Musgrove and Padres contract talks
Joe Musgrove and the Padres recently resumed contract extension talks and there is ''optimism the deal could be completed this week'', according to Kevin Acee of the San Diego Union.
From Kevin Acee: "It has reached a point where the team and Musgrove are close enough to agreeing on a multiyear contract that multiple sources said the deal, which would guarantee Musgrove upwards of $18 million a year, could get done this week." pic.twitter.com/hhhcEdvdtx

This comes as a surprise, seeing as Ken Rosenthal of The Athletic reported earlier this month that trade talks between the two had ''fizzled''. Musgrove had originally said that he felt the Padres offer earlier this month was below what he was worth as a player.

Musgrove did not feel the Padres' latest offer reflected the value he might command as a free agent.

The impending free agent has been stellar this year, holding a 2.42 ERA, 0.97 WHIP, and 102 strikeouts in 104 innings.
It will be interesting to see if a deal is reached between the two in the coming days.
