Oakland's Pitcher Progressing Towards Return

A's pitcher Dany Jimenez is set to throw a bullpen session in Arizona on Wednesday, his first start since his injury, according to Mark Kotsay.

He'll then proceed to a minor league rehab assignment "when he's ready", Oakland's manager said.

The twenty-eight year old has been a solid option out of the bullpen for the A's this season, posting a 4.38 ERA, 1.26 WHIP, and 23 strikeouts in 24 innings. The A's have used him as a closer at times this season and he's been very successful in that role, converting 11 of 13 save opportunities.

With Lou Trivino likely being traded away on August 2nd, the closer role will go to Jimenez once again and could be his for the foreseeable future. The A's have quietly built a fairly solid bullpen, with the trio of young pitchers such as Acevedo, Puk, Jackson, and Jimenez. As the team continues it's rebuild, the four pitchers make a solid core for the A's bullpen in the years to come.
