MLB Rumors: Yankees, Royals In Trade Talks For Outfielder

The New York Yankees hold a ridiculous 15-game lead in the American League East as we approach the All-Star Break, with a 61-24 record. The team isn't hurting in too many areas. However, the outfield could still use some work. Outside of MVP frontrunner Aaron Judge, the Yanks are looking for some OF help.

According to Jon Heyman of The New York Post, GM Brian Cashman has had trade discussions with the Kansas City Royals over former Boston Red Sox OF Andrew Benintendi, and his .317 average thus far this season.

Not too surprisingly, at the same time, the Yankees are hoping to send Joey Gallo out of town in another deal. Any deal. Gallo is hitting a miserable .166 with 92 strikeouts in 70 games. Heyman says the Padres could be interested, as their GM, AJ Preller, is familiar with Gallo from their days together in Texas.

As for the Royals' Benintendi, he will be a free agent after the season, and Heyman notes that to this point, the Royals are asking for a high price—"at least one good prospect." So far, the Yankees have balked, but talks will continue.
