MLB Rumors: Xander Bogaerts Expected To Land With This NL Team

The Boston Red Sox are going to have a problem on their hands come this offseason. Longtime All-Star shortstop Xander Bogaerts can opt out of his contract and become a free agent. And after the Sox underwhelmed him with extension offers that were said to be $100M below what he's looking for, many are expecting him to bolt.

According to MLB Insider Bob Nightengale of USA Today, he's quite likely to be heading to a National League team that's expected to be spending big bucks this coming winter.

Several executives are predicting that the Chicago Cubs end up with Xander Bogaerts.

Shortstop is certainly an area of need for the Cubs. They went after Carlos Correa hard during the past offseason, but Correa says he "didn't want to be part of no rebuilding."

With the money Bogaerts is expected to be offered, he might be willing to volunteer to spearhead the next phase of the Cubbies' rebuild.

Red Sox fans, of course, are hoping otherwise.

The 29-year-old is a three-time All-Star, and 4-time Silver Slugger winner, and has a lifetime average of .291 with an .814 OPS.

Unfortunately for the Red Sox, Heyman isn't the only one who thinks Bogaerts is bouncing from Boston.
