MLB Rumors: Two Players Are Untouchable For Yankees In Trade Talks

Despite their monstrous lead in the standings, the New York Yankees will be looking to add at the trade deadline. Starting pitching and the outfield are their main areas of focus. But when teams ask for a return, there are two players that are apparently off-limits, according to Jon Heyman of the New York Post.

Talks with the Cincinnati Reds over starter Luis Castillo, in particular, could get dicey, since the Reds are interested in both of those untouchables—the Yankees' top two prospects.

"The Yankees have said they won’t part with either of the Reds’ prime targets — Anthony Volpe or Oswald Peraza — and maintain that won’t change," writes Heyman.

Both players are shortstops. Volpe is the organization's No. 1 prospect, Peraza No. 2. Volpe, 21, is hitting .253 with an .812 OPS at Double-A this season, but has been raking of late, and just blasted his 12th home run. He's the No. 8 prospect in all of baseball.

The 22-year-old Peraza has hit 11 home runs with 31 RBIs at Triple-A, and went .387 with five homers, 13 RBI and a 1.144 OPS over a recent 16-game stretch. He's ranked No. 61 overall in baseball.

Yankee followers just want to see a deal for Castillo get done.

We'll see if Yankees' GM Brian Cashman stands his ground when push comes to shove as we near Aug. 2nd.
