MLB Rumors: Two NL Teams Vying For Royals' Andrew Benintendi

The news of Andrew Benintendi's refusal to get vaccinated has scared off some teams looking to acquire him at the trade deadline. With the US/Canada border restrictions, his unavailability for games in Toronto likely makes him essentially persona non grata for the Toronto Blue Jays, and the New York Yankees, which we reported yesterday.

But according to MLB Insider Jon Heyman, two National League teams looking for hitting are still interested. The Milwaukee Brewers and the San Diego Padres have "been trying for" the Royals outfielder in trade talks.

The Brewers currently hold a three-game lead atop the NL Central, but they have been on the hunt for some additional offense for several weeks now. Their outfield has had both some injury, as well as lack of production issues.

The Padres are firmly entrenched in the 2nd Wild Card spot at the moment, but are only three games from dropping out. They, too, have been looking for offense, particularly in their outfield, which has produced anemic numbers thus far.

Benintendi is hitting .317, though without much power (3 HR, 37 RBIs), and he's currently on a four-day unpaid vacation, on the restricted list while his Royals play in Toronto over the weekend.
