MLB Rumors: Tampa Bay Rays & Chicago Cubs Emerging As Trading Partners
According to Jon Heyman, the Rays are looking to add a catcher to their roster before the deadline passes. This is understandable with Mike Zunino ruled out for the rest of the season. Due to this, the Rays will certainly be making a push for Cubs catcher Willson Contreras from here.
The Rays are of course in a very deep AL East division and should be aggressive at the deadline because of it. Contreras would provide them with an All-Star behind the plate, which certainly would come in handy during fall baseball.
In 84 games this campaign, Contreras has 14 home runs, 37 RBIs, and a .252 batting average. Let's see if Tampa lands the veteran catcher from here.
