MLB Rumors: San Diego Padres Looking To Trade For Two Chicago Cubs
The San Diego Padres are looking to make a splash at this year's trade deadline, hoping to avoid the second half swoon that left them dropping out of the playoff race last season. According to Dennis Lin of The Athletic, they've been discussing acquiring two players from the Chicago Cubs.

"According to sources, the Padres have discussed the idea of adding both of the Cubs’ All-Stars — catcher Willson Contreras and outfielder Ian Happ — to their lineup," wrote Lin.
3-time All-Star Contreras could provide the Padres with both an impact bat at DH, and more production out of the catcher's spot. He becomes a free agent at season's end, and despite professing a desire to remain in the Windy City long-term, the Cubs are highly expected to trade him for a nice return, as they did with the rest of his 2016 World Series mates last year.
Happ is having his best season in the majors, making his first All-Star team. The Padres could definitely use a big boost in the outfield, with injuries and poor performance leaving the OF production seriously lacking.
Happ is hitting .280 with a .811 OPS and 44 RBIs this season.
