MLB Rumors: Reds Infielder "Tremendously Popular" In Trade Talks

When trade rumors swirl on the position player market this month, they will usually focus on names like Willson Contreras, Josh Bell and Andrew Benintendi. But according to MLB Insider Jon Morosi, Cincinnati Reds infielder Brandon Drury is "tremendously popular" in trade talks.

Morosi summed up all the reasons he pegs Drury as a top target. "No. 1, he's hitting like an All-Star this season; he plays multiple positions; he's on an expiring contract; he's making $900,000, one of the less expensive players on the trade market."

He lists the Seattle Mariners and the New York Mets as teams to watch. The Mariners could slot Drury in at second base, where they haven't had a lot of production. The Mets could use him at third base, as Eduardo Escobar has struggled of late.

"With the Reds still certainly in a rebuilding mode, a player like Drury is almost CERTAIN to be dealt, and someone who I think has a lot of interest around the industry."

The 29-year-old is hitting .276 with the Reds this season, with a career-high .870 OPS, and an eye-popping 18 homers and 50 RBIs. He can also play numerous positions, including first, second, third and the outfield.
