Gamel is set to become a UFA at the end of the season. Although he isn't a star, he has the ability to provide more outfield depth for a playoff-bound club. With how often injuries occur in the majors, this is never a bad thing to have.

Gamel has played in 61 games for Pittsburgh this season, where he has four home runs, 22 RBIs, and a .246 batting average.
