MLB Rumors: Pirates Turn Down Trade Offers For Two Players

It's thought that the Pittsburgh Pirates have a number of players available for trade as the deadline approaches in less than three weeks. But according to Rob Biertempfel of The Athletic, two attractive players on the roster might not be so available:

The Pirates already have rebuffed tempting offers for both players, sources told The Athletic, and it appears unlikely (Bryan) Reynolds or (David) Bednar will be traded during this season.

An All-Star last season, Reynolds has been coming on of late, and he is still under team control for another three seasons, so it would take a monumental offer to pry him loose. He's currently hitting .261 with an .808 OPS, but in his last 30 games, is batting .317 with a 1.002 OPS. He's now up to 15 homers on the season.

The closer, Bednar, was just named an All-Star for this year's game. He has had a few hiccups recently, but otherwise has been pretty much lock-down this season, with 15 saves and a 2.63 ERA, with a dominant 12.1 strikeouts per nine innings (12.1 K/9).

The 27-year-old is under team control for four more seasons, so again, a pretty hefty prospect haul would be expected in return.

So far, the Pirates haven't been tempted enough.

They do have other trade pieces, however.

Per Jon Heyman, starter Jose Quintana, he of the 3.59 ERA, would be a nice target for teams.
