MLB Rumors: New York Mets Targeting Baltimore Orioles First Baseman
According to Michael Marino, the Mets are "very clearly" pursuing Orioles first baseman/outfielder Trey Mancini, and he's one of their top trade targets.
The Mets are looking for a bit more pop in their lineup, and Mancini has the ability to provide just that. This season has been a bit of a quiet one for him, though, as he has nine home runs, 37 RBIs, and a .268 batting average. Yet, when remembering that he is a threat to hit 30 home runs per season, there's reason to believe that he can heat up as the year progresses.
The Mets are looking to go on a long playoff run this fall, so it would be wise for them to bring in a player like Mancini before the deadline passes. Let's see if they can manage to do just that.
