MLB Rumors: Angels To Put Pitcher On Trade Market

Despite healthy and MVP-worthy performances by both Mike Trout and Shohei Ohtani, the Los Angeles Angels will quite likely once again find themselves on the outside looking in come playoff time. They're currently 8 games back of a Wild Card spot, with four other teams to climb past as well. Safe to say they'll be sellers at the Aug. 2nd trade deadline.

One offseason move the Angels made that could pay some dividends come the deadline, is the signing of free agent pitcher Noah Syndergaard. The former New York Mets ace is making a comeback this season after Tommy John surgery in 2020. He's fared decently enough, though nowhere near his dominant levels of earlier in his career.

MLB Insider Jon Heyman says "rival teams suspect Noah Syndergaard to be made available in trade."

Now 29, Syndergaard has a 4.00 ERA with a 1.20 WHIP this season in 14 starts for the Angels. His strikeouts are down considerably, at just 7 K/9, from a career mark of 9.5 K/9. But he could make for a pretty effective 4th starter for a contender.

He does have an expiring contract, but at $21M, any team trading for him would be on the hook for about $7.5M for the balance of the season.
