Mets Pitcher Designated For Assignment

With Max Scherzer once again healthy, the Mets needed to open up a roster space for his return. Chasen Shreve is the victim of this, as the 317-game veteran has been designated for assignment.

Shreve returned to the Mets this offseason after spending the 2021 campaign with the Pirates. The reunion with the Mets has not gone well for him, unfortunately. In 25 games with the Mets this season, he has a 1-1 record to go along with a high 6.49 ERA. With numbers like these, perhaps his removal from the 40-man roster could have been predicted.

As stated above, Shreve comes with a good amount of experience and has also spent time with the Braves, Yankees, and Cardinals. In his 317 appearances, he has a 21-12 record and 3.87 ERA. It will be interesting to see if another club takes a chance on the veteran from here.
