Marlins Infielder Clears Waivers
Last week, the Marlins designated Erik Gonzalez and later placed him on waivers. Now, the infielder has cleared waivers and has been outrighted to Triple-A Jacksonville.
Gonzalez will continue to be a decent depth option for the Marlins. Due to his immense versatility, there's a chance that we could see him called back up to the majors before the season is out. He is able to play shortstop, third base, and second base, so he can squeeze back into the lineup. However, at least for now, he will be aiming to impress in Jacksonville.
Gonzalez has appeared in 16 games with Miami, where he has zero home runs, three RBIs, and a .189 batting average. Over the course of his seven-year MLB career, he has 11 home runs, 77 RBIs, and a .242 batting average in 352 games between the Guardians, Pirates, and Marlins.
