Dreaded Oblique Strain Lands Giants Vet On IL
For the second time this season, the San Francisco Giants have lost a key component of their lineup and their clubhouse to injury. Evan Longoria hits the 10-day IL with an oblique strain. These are rarely quick and easy recoveries.
Longoria missed the first month of the season recovering from finger surgery. He's been a key cog in the lineup since his return, with 8 homers and 18 RBIs in 44 games, hitting .242 with a .793 OPS. He'd been especially hot of late, batting .311 over his last 13 games with 3 home runs.
Until his return, third base for the Giants will likely be occupied by a number of fill-ins, including Wilmer Flores, Tommy La Stella and recent call-up David Villar.
Catcher Joey Bart has now officially been recalled from Triple-A to take Longoria's spot on the roster.

Bart is the former top prospect, and was the heir apparent to Buster Posey behind the plate, until a very slow start to the season saw him demoted. He feels he's ready now to live up to that promise. “I’m excited,” he said. “I’m ready to compete. I’m ready to come in here and bring something.”
