DeGrom Having "Mild Muscle Soreness"
Just when he thought it was safe to go back on the mound. New York Mets ace Jacob deGrom, now out a full year since his last major league action, experienced some "mild muscle soreness" this week.
After experiencing what the team has called “mild muscle soreness” in his shoulder over the weekend, Jacob deGrom had his simulated game pushed back to Thursday. He’s played catch the last two days “without issue.”

The soreness surfaced in his much-cared-for, much-talked-about shoulder, the shoulder that's essentially kept him out of action for 12 months. That was on the weekend. The team reports, however, that he then played catch the last two days "without issue," so for now, Mets fans can release that breath they were holding.
"Out of an abundance of caution", the team is pushing back his planned simulated game to this Thursday, assuming all is still good. As for his timeline for returning to the mound, that's anybody's guess at this point. But Mets beat writer Anthony DiComo gives it a shot:
This obviously pushes deGrom's timeline back at least a bit. It's now difficult to see him returning for the upcoming Yankees series.

If the Mets decide, given this new information, that he needs another rehab start after the sim game, his return wouldn't happen until August.
He says it's possible deGrom could need another rehab start, in which case, his return wouldn't happen until August.
deGrom finished his half-season in 2021 with a remarkable 1.08 ERA, 0.55 WHIP, and an astonishing 146 strikeouts in 92 innings.
