Cardinals Call Up Catcher

The Cardinals have purchased the contract of catcher Austin Romine from Triple-A Memphis. 

We have purchased the contract of C Austin Romine from Memphis (AAA).

C Iván Herrera has been optioned to Memphis (AAA).

Romine signed a minor league contract with the Cardinals a few weeks ago and is batting ninth tonight in the series opener against the Braves. 

The thirty-three old catcher is a veteran of 436 games in the majors since 2011. He owns a .238 batting average, 28 home runs and 157 RBIs in his 11 year career.
