Braves Trade For 8-Time All-Star
The timing couldn't be more perfect for the Atlanta Braves. Just as the New York Mets arrive in town for a huge series, so does discarded former Met Robinson Cano, acquired Sunday by the Braves in a trade with the San Diego Padres.
#Braves traded for veteran second baseman Robinson Canó, acquiring him in a minor league deal from the Padres for cash considerations. The Mets are paying all but the minimum portion of his $24M salary after releasing the former star earlier this season.

The 39-year-old former 8-time All-Star had been playing with the San Diego Padres' Triple-A affiliate in El Paso; the Mets sent some cash the Padres' way in exchange. And speaking of cash, it's the Mets who are still paying Cano the vast majority of his $24M salary this year, after releasing him earlier in the season.
Actually, Mariners are paying $3.75M and Mets $20.25M of Canó $24M salary this year and again in 2024, minus the prorated portion of MLB minimum from any team he's with.

And while he's hit just .149 in 74 at-bats with New York and San Diego this season, he was showing shades of his former self in the minors, hitting .333 with an .854 OPS in 96 Triple-A at-bats. And yes, he will be activated in time for Monday night's game.
Think there'll be any extra motivation for Cano to stick it to his former team in this crucial series? The Braves trail the Mets by just 1.5 games for first place in the NL East.
The #Braves just acquired Robinson Canó.
