The Yankees have optioned pitcher Clarke Schmidt to Triple-A Scranton/Wilkes-Barre.

Schmidt pitched in the last two games and Albert Abreu is expected to fill his spot ahead of Thursday's game against the Astros. The Yankees claimed pitcher Abreu off waivers from the Royals on Tuesday.

Schmidt has been a solid bullpen option for the Yankees this season, posting a 3.00 ERA, 1.17 WHIP and 21 strikeouts in 24 innings.

Expect to see the twenty-six year old pitcher back in the majors soon.
