Royals Call Up Top Prospect; Having Monster Season In AAA

The future is now for the Kansas City Royals. Having dealt away veteran first baseman Carlos Santana, they've paved the way for top prospect Vinnie Pasquantino, who they called up from Triple-A today.

The 24-year-old Pasquantino has been crushing it in AAA, blasting 18 home runs and 67 RBIs in just 69 games thus far this season. He's batting .280 with a .948 OPS. Even more revealing for his potential success in the majors, he has more walks (37) than strikeouts (36).

The Royals point out in their news release that Pasquantino's 67 RBIs are second in all of professional baseball—majors or minors—only to the New York Mets' Pete Alonso (69).

In Pasquantino's three years in the minors, he has 204 RBIs in 242 games, while posting a .956 OPS.

He should step right in to the KC starting lineup, at first base.
