Rays Place Starter on Family Medical Emergency List Amid Flurry of Roster Moves

The Rays have placed pitcher Jeffrey Springs on the family medical emergency list.

Springs was scheduled to start tonight in Toronto before the news came out. The starter has been stellar this year, posting a 2.25 ERA, 1.00 WHIP and 65 strikeouts in 60 innings.

Matt Wisler is starting in Springs' absence and pitcher Ryan Yarbrough has been called up to serve as the bulk reliever behind Wisler.

Wisler has been solid for the Rays' this season, posting a 2.83 ERA, 1.14 WHIP with 28 strikeouts in 35 innings. Yarbrough, meanwhile, has had a rough season in the majors this year, holding a 5.65 ERA, 1.53 WHIP and 20 strikeouts in 28 innings.

Pitchers Brooks Raley and Ryan Thompson are unable to make the trip to Toronto, due to their unvaccinated status. Pitchers Javvy Guerra and Phoenix Sanders have been recalled to fill their absence.

Raley is a big blow to the Rays' bullpen as he has been fantastic this season, posting a 2.22 ERA, 0.90 WHIP, four saves, and 32 strikeouts in 24 innings of relief.
