Orioles Infielder Designated For Assignment
The Baltimore Orioles have designated Chris Owings for assignment.
After signing a minor league contract with the Orioles during the offseason, Owings impressed enough to make the Opening Day Roster. Things haven't gone too smoothly since then, however, as he has a .107 batting average in 26 games. Thus, perhaps this most recent transaction could have been predicted.
Although it's been a very hard year for Owings so far, there could be teams willing to give him a chance as a depth player. He can play shortstop, second base, and the outfield, so he offers immense versatility. With that, he comes with a lot of experience, too. In 710 games between the Diamondbacks, Royals, Red Sox, Rockies, and Orioles, he has 37 home runs, 220 RBIs, and a .239 batting average.
