"No One's Gonna Sign Him Now!": Insider Says Robinson Cano Is Done

Former 8-time All-Star Robinson Cano refused a minor league assignment by the San Diego Padres, and instead decided to go back on the free agent market. According to MLB Insider, and former major league GM Jim Bowden, that was a big mistake.

"No one's gonna sign him now," said Bowden on MLB Network Radio on Sunday. "If he wanted to keep playing, he should have accepted the optional assignment, gone down, swung the bat, played everyday, and see if in a month he could come back and play on a team that has a chance to go to the World Series. That's what you do if you want to keep playing.

"Everyone watched him go 8-for-41 with the (New York) Mets, and then 3-for-33 with the Padres."

Cano is an 8-time All-Star with a lifetime .301 average and .840 OPS, with a career 335 HR, and a World Series ring with the 2009 New York Yankees.

In summary, however, Bowden calls Cano one of those players who don't know when to walk away. "He went 3-for-33. He's 39 years old. It's over."
