Nationals Sign Infielder
Last month, Ildemaro Vargas was released by the Chicago Cubs. The 30-year-old infielder has now found a new home, however, as he has signed a minor league contract with the Washington Nationals.
Vargas has the potential to be a solid depth player for the Nationals moving forward. Yet, he will need to impress while with Triple-A Rochester to earn himself a potential call-up as the season progresses. It also doesn't hurt that he can play several positions in the infield, either.
Vargas has made appearances at the major league level in each of the last six seasons. In 186 career games between the Diamondbacks, Twins, Pirates, and Cubs, he has nine home runs, 46 RBIs, and a .227 batting average. Let's see if he has the chance to improve on these totals with the Nats.
