The Pittsburgh Pirates have had a season-long shuttle going between Triple-A Indianapolis and the Steel City. Prospects and minor leaguers alike have been given a chance to try their hand in the big leagues. But now, sources say, THE prospect that all of Pittsburgh has been waiting for, is about to get his chance.

Pirates beat reporter Alex Stumpf, among others, is hearing that top prospect Oneil Cruz will be getting the call this weekend.
Cruz is a 6-foot-7 monster with power and speed to spare. And yes, he plays a solid shortstop too. Now that he's out of the "super-two qualifying zone"—meaning the Pirates save on a year of arbitration—the Pirates could be ready to make the call.
To be fair, Cruz did get off to a slow start at Triple-A this season, but has come on of late, and currently has 9 HR, 33 RBIs and 11 SB in 49 games. In a two-game trial late last season, he tantalized by going 3-for-9 with a home run and 3 RBIs.
And with Pirates shortstops really struggling of late, Cruz Time may have arrived.
Back-to-back throwing errors for Diego Castillo, further greasing the skids for Oneil Cruz.
