MLB Rumors: Insider Tabs Scherzer Return Date
All eyes in the New York Mets organization will be on a minor league rehab start on Tuesday. But this won't be just any rehab start. Ace Max Scherzer will be throwing.
And according to Jon Heyman and Mark W. Sanchez in the New York Post, he could be back next weekend—"if all goes well" in that rehab outing.
"One source familiar with the Mets’ thinking called Sunday’s game in Miami a 'consideration' for Scherzer," wrote Heyman.
The Mets face the Marlins on Sunday in Miami, and Scherzer is a "consideration" to start that game.

Should he return on Sunday, Scherzer would beat the 6-to-8 week timeline that was originally put on his recovery by the team: https://t.co/jkrRet5O70 pic.twitter.com/XqxnrAHcOq
The 37-year-old three-time Cy Young Award winner has been out with an oblique injury for over a month. If he does indeed pitch for the Mets within a week, that would bring Scherzer back ahead of schedule. He was said to have been out 6-to-8 weeks after the injury was diagnosed.
“The reality is I can very easily have a rehab start, have it be tight and want to actually do it again before I go into a game,” Scherzer said last Thursday. “I’m very aware of working through this injury, really focused on not having a setback.”
