MLB Rumors: 3 Pirates Who Could Be Moved This Summer

The Pittsburgh Pirates are in the midst of another rebuild, and as is commonly the case the past few seasons, they will be sellers at the trade deadline this summer.

They have some intriguing prospects already on the scene, pitcher Roansy Contreras and infielders Diego Castillo and Rodolfo Castro among them. Oneil Cruz is only a call away at Triple-A.

But they will no doubt be looking to add to their prospects stash in July. Let's have a look at three Pirates who could be moved this summer.

Bryan Reynolds

According to The Athletic's Jim Bowden, the Pirates have fielded more calls about Reynolds than any other player in the past year. He was a hot topic of trade rumors at the 2021 trade deadline, but Pittsburgh held on to the All-Star outfielder.

This year has been a struggle for the 27-year-old, hitting only .220 with a .707 OPS compared to .912 last season. But teams are already well-aware of what Reynolds can do. Bowden pegs the New York Yankees as a team that will come after Reynolds.

David Bednar

The closer is the Pirate "most likely to be traded" according to Bowden. Bednar has been lock-down this season, with 10 saves and a 1.33 ERA. It's nearly impossible to find a contender that can't use another late-inning option like this 27-year-old.

Specifically, Bowden mentions the Boston Red Sox, the Yankees, Minnesota Twins, Los Angeles Angels, New York Mets and St. Louis Cardinals as teams that would be interested.

Ben Gamel

For teams shopping in the cheaper aisles, anyone looking for a 4th outfielder or a bench option, Gamel could fit the bill, and the Pirates would be looking to trade him for a small return.
