Mets Call Up 3-Time Gold Glover

The New York Mets have a strong starting outfield in Starling Marte, Brandon Nimmo and Mark Canha, but that 4th OF backup position has been in flux this season. Today, former Atlanta Braves All-Star Ender Inciarte gets his crack at it, called up from Triple-A Syracuse.

"Any role that I can do to help this team win," said Inciarte.

The 30-year-old was an All-Star in 2017 with the Braves, batting .304 with 11 homers and 22 stolen bases, and won three Gold Gloves for his work in center field, from 2016 through 2018. He was recently signed to a minor league deal by the Mets.

Nick Plummer was the most recent to have his shot at the 4th outfielder spot, but after a strong couple of games in late May, he's failed to pick up a single base hit in June, plunging his average to .138. He'll head down to the farm to make room for Inciarte.
