Mariners Acquire 13-Year Veteran In Trade
The first real deal of the trading season is upon us, as the Seattle Mariners have added 13-year veteran first baseman Carlos Santana, acquiring him in a trade from the Kansas City Royals.
Trade! First baseman Carlos Santana is headed to the Seattle Mariners, and right-handed reliever Wyatt Mills and right-hander William Fleming, who is in A ball, will go back to the Kansas City Royals, who are sure to be active over the next five weeks.

And so it begins.
In return, the Royals receive a pair of right-handers, Wyatt Mills and William Fleming. Mills heads to Triple-A, while Fleming is at High-A.
As noted by Insider Jeff Passan, this is likely just the first of many selloff deals the Royals will be making over the next several weeks.
Santana was an All-Star with the Cleveland Guardians in 2019, and provides some power, but otherwise has had trouble keeping his average much above the Mendoza line over the past few years.
This season with the Royals, the 36-year-old is batting .216 with a .690 OPS, with 4 home runs and 21 RBIs.
