Kenley Jansen Having Heart Problems Once Again

For the fourth time in his career, Atlanta Braves closer Kenley Jansen has to step away from competition due to an irregular heartbeat. He's been placed on the 15-day injured list.

It's a scary issue for the 34-year-old, as he's dealt with this throughout his 13-year career, the first time coming in 2011, then again in 2017 and 2018, all with the Los Angeles Dodgers. The last of those instances required Jansen to have corrective heart surgery—his second such procedure—in November of 2018.

The right-hander signed a $16M contract with Atlanta this season after spending his previous 12 years in LA.

The Braves have called up Jesus Cruz to fill his roster spot, and it's expected that Will Smith or even A.J. Minter would fill in as closer while Jansen is out.
