Bryce Harper Forced To Have Thumb Surgery
The news continues to get worse for the Philadelphia Phillies around Bryce Harper. The fractured thumb he suffered after being hit by a pitch on the weekend will now require surgery to repair.
Bryce Harper will require surgery to stabilize break. There is optimism he will play again this season after recovery of six weeks, give or take.

There is optimism that after a recovery period of about six weeks, he could be able to return to the Phillies lineup. That would take us to mid-to-late August.
Will that be enough time for the Phillies to make a good run at a Wild Card spot? They're currently sitting at 39-35, two games back of the St. Louis Cardinals who currently own the 3rd and final WC spot. They've also got the San Francisco Giants to leapfrog, as they are one game up on the Phils.
The incident occurred Saturday night, when he was drilled in the hand by a Blake Snell pitch.

The reigning NL MVP has also been dealing with a UCL tear in his elbow, and was relegated to DH duties. He can hopefully return to that role by the end of August.
