Blue Jays Send Catcher To Triple-A
With the presence of Alejandro Kirk, and the arrival of their top prospect, catcher Gabriel Moreno, the Toronto Blue Jays have sent catcher Zach Collins down to Triple-A Buffalo.
After spending three seasons as a backup backstop with the Chicago White Sox, Collins has had a chance to get some playing time with the Jays this season, courtesy of two injuries to regular starting catcher Danny Jansen. Collins is known more for his bat than his work behind the plate, though he hit just .212 with a .742 OPS for the Jays this season. He did smack four homers and drive in 10 in just 22 games.
The long-awaited debut of Moreno, meanwhile, takes place Saturday afternoon in Detroit, where he'll bat 8th and be behind the plate catching Jays' ace Kevin Gausman.
Moreno was batting .324 in Buffalo, and over his five seasons in the minors hit .311 with an .845 OPS.
He is No. 4 overall prospect in baseball.
