Blue Jays Reveal Depressing Update on Hyun-Jin Ryu's Injury

Toronto Blue Jays' starting pitcher Hyun-Jin Ryu went back on the injured list this past week for a recurrence of his forearm injury. Now comes word that Ryu will miss "significant" time.

Ryu missed four weeks earlier in the season with the injury, and only recently came back. The Blue Jays were initially optimistic that this recurrence wouldn't cost him too much time, but it's proven to be a more serious issue. Ryu will be getting a second opinion this week from Dr. Neal ElAttrache in California. Second opinions are almost always indicative of a real problem.

The 35-year-old left-hander made two starts in April before going down with the forearm injury the first time, then came back in mid-May and made four starts before it re-surfaced.

Overall, he's 2-0 but with a 5.33 ERA thus far this season.

Ross Stripling, who's filled in more than admirably for Ryu, will likely continue to start in his stead.
