White Sox Lose Top Hitter To Injured List

The injury bug has hit the Chicago White Sox yet again. This time it's taken out team leader and leadoff hitter Tim Anderson. And this one will really hurt.

Anderson heads to the 10-day IL with a strained right groin. And as manager Tony La Russa stated, he hopes that his leadoff hitter can return in as soon as 3 weeks.

"The good news is that it could be worse,'' La Russa said, "which means that whatever the minimum was -- you know, three weeks and not six weeks -- is realistic, maybe. He heals fast. It's still three long weeks for us.''

Anderson is among the league leaders, as usual, batting .356, his fourth straight season hitting well over the .300 mark. He also has 5 home runs, 8 stolen bases, and an .896 OPS.

"He's our ignitor," lamented La Russa.

On the bright side, the White Sox were able to activate OF Luis Robert off the Covid IL.

The Sox will also be without Dylan Cease and Kendall Graveman, who were placed on the restricted list due to their unvaccinated status and inability to join their teammates for a series in Toronto starting Tuesday night.
