Rangers Call Up Top Prospect From Triple-A
The Texas Rangers are about to start reaping the rewards of the Joey Gallo trade. They've summoned their #7 prospect, Josh Smith, to the big leagues. He was acquired from the New York Yankees last summer for Gallo.
The 24-year-old can play a number of positions, but will likely slot in at 3B to start, as the Rangers have also placed Brad Miller on the injured list.
Smith has had a fine start to the season at Triple-A, hitting .273 with an .804 OPS, along with four homers, 29 RBIs and 8 stolen bases over 40 games at Round Rock. He's a real threat on the basepaths, having stolen 40 bases in 52 attempts in the minors.
The Rangers have also called up 28-year-old OF Zach Reks, who's been tearing it up at AAA, hitting .337 with a 1.056 OPS in 25 games, while adding 5 homers and 18 RBIs.
Texas has also designated right-hander Albert Abreu for assignment to clear the roster spot.
