Pirates Outfielder Elects Free Agency
Anthony Alford is leaving the Pittsburgh Pirates, as he has decided to become a free agent instead of joining their Triple-A squad.
With this decision, Alford will be looking for another home in the majors. He certainly could get some attention around the league, as he has made major league appearances in each of the last six seasons. However, he also has yet to cement himself as a full-timer in the sport's most competitive league. In 102 career games between the Toronto Blue Jays and Pirates, he has eight home runs, 20 RBIs, and a .209 batting average.
Alford's 2022 season has been fairly quiet. He has only had four plate appearances in the year, where he has one hit. It will be intriguing to see if the outfielder will have the chance to build on these numbers this campaign with a new club.
