Padres Sign Veteran Pitcher
The San Diego Padres have signed Yusmeiro Petit to a minor league contract. If he ends up making the major league roster, he will make $1.5 million for the season and potentially $500,000 more in incentives.
Petit certainly has a good shot of landing himself a promotion. He has an immense amount of experience in the league, so it seems likely that San Diego will at least give him a chance. In 515 career games between the Marlins, Arizona Diamondbacks, San Francisco Giants, Washington Nationals, Los Angeles Angels, and Oakland Athletics, he sports a 50-44 record and 3.93 ERA.
At this juncture, the Padres would benefit from adding a bit more experience in their bullpen. Yet, we will have to see if Petit is able to perform well and land himself an eventual call-up.
