MLB Rumors: Top 3 Pitchers on Trade Block This Summer

We've heard the names before, but now that summer is getting closer, it's time to revisit a list of the top pitchers on the trade block. Some teams may choose to act sooner than later, to get a jump on the competition.

Here's a look at 3 of the biggest names.

Frankie Montas, Oakland Athletics

Expect the New York Mets to go all-out to try to win the Montas sweepstakes. New York is now down three starters, including two of the very best in the game in deGrom and Scherzer. They're desperate for another high-end arm, and Montas fits the bill.

The A's have dealt pretty much everyone else of value over the last few months, and it's a surprise Montas is still around. Other teams that will chase him, according to MLB Insider Jon Heyman, include the Minnesota Twins, Chicago White Sox, St. Louis Cardinals and New York Yankees (of course, why not?).

Luis Castillo, Cincinnati Reds

Here's another familiar name that's been on the trade block for some time. Heyman suggests that the San Francisco Giants could come a-calling, as they have for other Reds pitchers in recent years, like Anthony DeSclafani, Alex Wood, Kevin Gausman and Johnny Cueto.

The 29-year-old Castillo is off to his typical slow start this season, but he still has a 3.73 career ERA, and would be a solid addition to the top half of any contending team's rotation.

Nate Eovaldi, Boston Red Sox

The Red Sox have more than their fair share of impending free agents on their roster, and the hard-throwing Eovaldi is one of them. The 32-year-old has said that he will not discuss an extension during the season. He's coming off an All-Star season, and was 4th in Cy Young voting.

Boston has been coming on a little of late, so there's still a possibility they consider themselves a potential playoff contender, which would limit the likelihood of an Eovaldi trade.

The Reds' Tyler Mahle gets an honorable mention for this list as well.
